Train Ticket Reservation & Booking Date

I wanted to book ticket for Pune - Chennai train journey on 31st night. The tickets were available only for Dadar-Chennai and not for Pune-Chennai . So I booked tickets from Dadar to Chennai with Boarding point as Pune. The Chennai Express starts from Dadar at 20:30pm 31st dec and reaches Pune by 12:05 am 1st January. So I assumed the booking date should be 01st Jan 2008 as the train reaches Pune(my boarding station) by Jan 1st,2008(12:05am). Unfortunately, the system expects the date/time of the FROM station(Dadar) instead of actual boarding point(Pune). Finally ended up booking a tatkal ticket with journey date as 31st dec 2007.
Now I have tickets for two consecutive days and slightly confused about the exact ticket matching my journey date.
